Planting depth affects corn emergence, growth and development, and yield

چکیده
Current planting depth recommendations for corn (Zea mays L.) producers range from 38 to 51 mm in the midwestern United States. Characterization of emergence and soil conditions at a depths under later-planted scenarios is important as days adequate field work April have been reducing may affect dates. Field studies were conducted Ohio 2017 2019 determine effects type on emergence, growth, grain yield. The research was two types (Strawn–Crosby or Kokomo) using randomized complete block design with four replications targeting three (25, 51, 76 mm). Sensors installed seeding measure moisture temperature during period. Plants harvested assess growth V3 yield R6. Seeds targeted 25-mm resulted shortest time 10% emerged but had least uniform (longest 10–90% emerged) compared depths. Shallow also correlated fewer leaves per plant kernels produced plant. Emergence 7 d 86 accumulated growing degree units (sGDU) after across fields reduction 5% day 0.6% sGDU, respectively. In Strawn–Crosby field, plot yields did not differ between depths; Kokomo increased by 8 when mm, respectively, 25 mm. Planting adjustments can enhance crop performance, though responses type.

Isabgol (Plantago ovata Forsk) seed germination and emergence as affected by environmental factors and planting depth
Isabgol (Plantago ovata Forsk) seed germination and emergence in response todrought (Polyethylene glycol 8000) and salinity stress (NaCl), temperature, pH andplanting depth were studied in laboratory and greenhouse experiments. Base, optimum and ceiling germination temperature were estimated as 3.35, 21.24 and35.04 oC, respectively. Isabgol seed is rather tolerant to low water potential and high...
متن کاملPlanting Date and Residue Rate Effects on Growth, Partitioning, and Yield of Corn
Corn (&a mays L.) growth has been shown to be affected by planting date and amount of residue on the soil surface. The objective of this study was to determine if the adverse effects of cool soil temperatures on early seedling growth often associated with surface residues can be overcome by planting at later dates. Corn was planted at several planting dates (late April through early June) into ...
متن کاملImpacts of Drought Stress and Planting Methods on Sweet Corn Yield and Water Use Efficiency
Abstract Seasonal drought is the most important factor to limit the production of maize in the world. Using a split plot design, a two year field experiment was conducted to determine the effect of limited irrigation regime on yield, yield components and water use efficiency of sweet corn (Zea mays var. saccharata). Responses of three sweet corn varieties KSC403, Merit and Obsession to three di...

Growth, Development and Yield in Pure and Mixed Forest Stands
Objective: Ecosystems with mixed species compared to the ones with pure compositions provide a broader range of options in the fields of biodiversity, conservation, protection and restoration. Nearly all forest plantations are established as monocultures, but research has shown that there are potential advantages to be gained by using carefully designed species mixtures in place of monocultures...
